Would you prefer to take cholesterol lowering drugs, or naturally lower your cholesterol?

So many people seem to have a cholesterol problem. High total cholesterol, or perhaps the ratio between your good, or HDL cholesterol and your bad, or LDL cholesterol, is wrong.

And your doctor is telling you that you need to take more notice of your cholesterol levels, and overall heart health.

And your doctor may be suggesting tackling the problem with prescription drugs like statin drugs.

Unfortunately drugs generally, and statin drugs in particular, do not come without some risks of side effects. Statin drugs have been linked to fatigue, nausea, gastrointestinal problems, muscle weakness and general pain. Of course the drug industry denies all of this, but it’s still there.

What options do you have for lowering cholesterol naturally?

First we need to identify what exactly we mean by lowering cholesterol “naturally”. What exactly is “natural”?

For the purposes of this discussion we take “natural” cholesterol management to mean a non prescription drug approach to managing cholesterol levels.

This should include a good diet to lower cholesterol, improved exercise levels and the use of natural cholesterol managing supplements.

Most people find that lowering cholesterol levels by diet alone is difficult. Your body produces it’s own cholesterol and so changing your diet only affects a portion of your total cholesterol input, and changing levels to lower cholesterol naturally through diet alone is pretty hard.

But a good cholesterol lowering diet is a part of the overall equation. You need to cut down on meat and dairy that is high in saturated fats and replace these with fruits, fresh vegetables and grains. This will also help with general or overall health, which in turn translates to improved general cardiovascular health.

And improving exercise levels is also an important part of the overall approach.

Finally you need to use a high quality natural cholesterol lowering supplement. The best natural cholesterol lowering supplements tackle the problem from a range of angles.

They reduce your body’s ability to produce cholesterol, reduce cholesterol absorption in the gut from food, and also increase the excretion of bile acid, which carries cholesterol with it.

So naturally lowering cholesterol levels is very achievable. You don’t need to risk side affects by taking prescription drugs like statins.

But you do need to manage your diet carefully, increase your exercise levels and start using a high quality natural cholesterol lowering supplement. Read the rest of this entry

Everyone forms facial wrinkles as they age. Why? And can we prevent it?

Wrinkles are a part of the aging process. It’s inevitable that our face forms wrinkles as we age.

We get those fine lines around our eyes and mouth and our skin just seems to sag.

Why does this happen?

Our skin is formed in 3 layers. The epidermis, or outside layer, the dermis, second layer, and the subcutaneous layer below the dermis.

And as we age our skin cells start to weaken and thin, and these layers thin out. The collagen and elastin in our skins, both essential components of skin elasticity and suppleness, start to lessen in volume and the fibers that help keep our skin supple and more youthful looking start to weaken.

This is all part of aging.

And then there’s lifestyle factors. A good diet, with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and lots of exercise will help contribute to both our overall health, and our skin health.

And there are 2 other lifestyle factors that contribute hugely to the reduction of our skin health and to the formation of wrinkles. Sunburn and smoking. Either, or both together, are deadly for our skin.

Wrinkles and fine lines will form. But we can do something about them.

Modern science if finding answers to many health problems. Wrinkles and lines aren’t really a health problem, more a cosmetic problem, but nevertheless modern science is coming up with answers.

For example 2 very important recent scientific discoveries have made huge strides finding natural substances that make a massive contribution to our skin health.

The first is Phytessence Wakame, a Japanese seaweed that contains many ingredients that are found to be excellent for our skin and help maintain skin health right into old age.

And the second is a substance found in the wool of sheep that is also extremely useful in maintaining skin health, suppleness and elasticity.

But you won’t find these ingredients in any of the big brand skin care lines. And you won’t buy skin care products and anti wrinkle creams that contain these active ingredients in your local store. They’re made by a small niche skin care company that makes superb skincare products that are both higher quality to those made by the big brands, and cost comparable.

They’re made by Xtend Life, a small New Zealand company, and are the worlds best skin care and anti aging products. Read the rest of this entry
