Good News On Safe Cosmetics.

Although there’s been a lot of bad news about safe cosmetics, it’s not all bad.

We’ve written extensively about dangerous ingredients in cosmetics and skin care products, and also about the importance of using natural skin care products that don’t contain dangerous ingredients.

And we’ve highlighted some of the studies done which show such problems with cosmetics and skin care products like lead in lipsticks and phthalates in personal and beauty and body care products. And also about parabens in skin care products and cosmetics.

From time to time come good news comes along and today is such a day. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has alerted us today that they have detected a decline in the levels of phthalates in some products. In particular they point to the perfume Poison.

They found 4 different phthalates in Poison during the last test, but this time they have tested Poison and found it to be – less poisonous. No phthalates at all. This is great news and means, it appears, that the body care and cosmetics and perfume companies are starting to take notice of the fact that the public don’t want poisonous ingredients in their cosmetics and skin care products.

It would seem obvious wouldn’t it?

But a small step is an important one nevertheless. And the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics says it isn’t confined just to Poison, but there are signs that some of the bigger companies are slowly removing poisonous ingredients like phthalates from their products this has to be good.

Antioxidants. Just about everyone has heard of them, but what do they do for your skin?

Antioxidants. It’s one of the buzz words of the health industry. That doesn’t mean that antioxidants are bad, just that everyone is talking about them. But lets examine the role of antioxidants in skin care.

To understand antioxidants you need to understand free radicals. Free radicals are atoms missing an electron. The buzz around your body looking to replace their lost electron, doing damage in the process. And free radicals in your skin damage your skin cells and accelerating the process of skin aging.

And you get free radicals everywhere. Your body produces free radicals, and you get them in your food. So if free radicals damage your skin you need to combat them.

Antioxidants combat free radicals. An antioxidant gives up a free electron to a free radical, thereby neutralizing the effect of the free radical. And the antioxidant itself does not become a free radical because they are able to lose an electron without becoming unstable.

Where do you get antioxidants? From a good diet. A diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables will be much higher in antioxidants than a diet rich in pizza, burgers and beer. So good diet is important.

But if you’re interested in serious skin care you need more than a good diet, although a good diet is a fine place to start. But to supplement the antioxidants you get through your diet you can get extremely effective antioxidant skin care products.

But there are anti oxidants, and there are anti oxidants. Simple Vitamin C is one. There’s lots more. But not all anti oxidants are created equal.

Many skin care products contain antioxidants that neutralize free radicals one by one. The cheaper anti oxidants do this, and many big brand name skincare and anti-aging products contain cheap anti oxidants. But they’re there, so they can put it on the label, and the product sells.

But the best skin care products contain much more expensive antioxidants, which neutralize millions of free radicals in one go. So they work dramatically better.

It’s an ingredient called Cynergy TK, and it works extremely well. Trials show visible improvements in the skin within a month.

And of course good skin care isn’t just about anti oxidants and free radicals, it’s about way more than that. The best skin care products contain a whole host of ingredients all designed to work together in synergy, producing the best result.

So that’s a little about free radicals and antioxidants. Remember, not all anti oxidants are created equal. It’s not good enough just to see them listed on the label of that night cream or moisturizer or day cream or whatever other skincare product you’re buying.

You need to find out a little more about the antioxidants used.
