Keratin In Skin Care Products. Is Keratin Good Or Bad?

Almost everyone knows keratin. It’s good for your skin. So is it good to find it on the label of your skincare products?

Keratin is an important component of our skin. It contributes massively to our overall skin health, and in particular to our skin elasticity and skin firmness.

More keratin in our skin is good, because it promotes new cell growth in our skin, and increases our skins fibrous nature. And this helps reduce sagging and lines.

But beware, because not all keratin is the same.

Keratin is found in various parts of the body. Particularly in nails and skin. So it is also found in certain parts of the bodies of animals too. Like in the hooves, horns and feathers of animals and birds.

So the traditional way of extracting keratin is to heat up hooves horns and feathers and extract the keratin, then put it into the anti-aging products.

And then you can put “with keratin” on the label, and this helps sell more of the product.

But the problem is, when you extract keratin like this it is “hydrolyzed” by heat and this changes the form of the keratin into a different form which is not “bio available”. In other words it doesn’t do anything.

So why is it there?

To help sell the product. Does it do any good? No not really.

But there is a keratin that is “bio available” because it isn’t extracted by heating animal products. It is, rather, taken from the wool of New Zealand sheep, and isn’t hydrolyzed. It’s “bio available” and it works wonders when used in skin care and anti-aging products.

It’s called “Functional Keratin”.

Who uses “Functional Keratin” in their skin care range? Xtend Life does, and it works very well. It’s use promotes firmness and elasticity of the skin, making it healthier and more youthful than it was. And it helps promote the regrowth of your new skin cells. So if you buy products with “Functional Keratin” in them then it’s great news to your skin. If you buy products with conventional keratin, extracted from the hooves horns and feathers of animals and birds it’s not doing you much good.

But it’s done some good for the skin care company because you’ve boght their product.
