The worlds lowest incidence of Alzheimer’s disease is in some Indian villages. They are showing a rate of Alzheimers for those over 60 years old at around 1%, way below the incidence in Western cultures.
This fact has prompted scientists to study turmeric and the effects of turmeric on Alheimer’s disease, and there seems to be an encouraging link between turmeric and Alzheimer’s disease.
Turmeric is of course a big part of curries, it provides the distinctive yellow color that you get in curries. And the Indians, of course, eat a lot of curries.
This link has suggested studies of the link between turmeric and Alsheimers, and studies are now showing that the intake of turmeric in mice reduces the incidence of Alzheimers.
The ingredient in turmeric that is being studied is curcumin, a known powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory.
And there is other studies showing reduction in brain damage in rats using turmeric.
It’s all exciting, but not yet proven, we need human trials. Of course this could take years, or decades. You may not want to wait.
